Princes Trust
After a very successful national roadshow late last year, the culmination was the prestigious Prince's Trust Awards at the Odeon Leicester Square.
The event was hosted by Ant and Dec and played host to celebrities such as Tinie Tempah, Helen Mirren and Idris Elba along with the Royal host, Prince Charles himself. The status of the guest list meant that we needed to plan our side of things with precision to accommodate the necessary routine which accompanies a Royal visitor.
Of course the real stars were the many young people there to pick up their awards and we were proud to deliver a flawless event to celebrate their achievements.
We designed and built a bespoke stage set and used the in-house projection system for the dynamic backdrop which changed colours for each award. Once again, our specially designed Watchout presentation system was able to handle the multiple video windows to overlay onto the backgrounds, as well as being able to mask out areas of the stage set to stop the overspill from the projectors from washing them out. The curvature and rake of the screen at the Odeon also meant that we had to shape our image to make sure that any straight lines were just that – straight. Fortunately, Watchout can do that out of the box and more importantly, live, so that you can see any changes immediately.
We look forward to a prolonged relationship with the Prince's Trust because apart from being interesting events, they make a huge difference to the people they set out to help.

One Nation Labour
Ed Miliband, Leader of the Labour Party, has kicked off a series of community engagement events under the title “One Nation”.
These live televised Q&A sessions are taking place across the country and BroadSword have been asked to offer technical support to many of the dates.
Working closely with the Labour Party events team we put a small tech team on the road going where necessary at any hour to ensure not only the live event element was flawless but the broadcast element work as well.
This is an ongoing series of roadshows and we don’t know when or where the next one will be so as ever……Standing by

The Box
Event production company The Box asked us to help with their show at the Imax cinema in Waterloo recently. Their client, Jersey Finance, wanted to take advantage of the largest screen in Europe by creating content to open the event and needed a full screen background solution with picture-in-picture windows for the presentations and discussions.
It gave us a chance to create a Digital Cinema Package in 3D for the first time which we uploaded to the IMAX projection system for testing in advance. This worked beautifully and in full surround sound. The audience were treated to a bespoke, dynamic, 3D opening animation which set the tone for the rest of the event. Our Watchout presentation system then made displaying multiple content windows easy.
It was a great example of being able to work closely with the client to take their content and turn it into something to really excite an audience.

One of our repeat customers Lend Lease decided to run a development conference in The Crowne Plaza Glasgow in October to coincide with thier building project in the area; The Hydro. Following a site visit in early September we designed a bespoke stage set incorporating a full colour 7 metre wide printed backdrop to show The Hydro when complete. All of our equipment and set items were driven to site to meet the technical team. Upon arrival we found out that the room had been double booked and we were placed next to a high energy party style awards show that would run at the same time as the Lend Lease event. We were forced to make the decision to change rooms at the last minute. Our technical and set team worked overnight to redesign the event to fit into a much smaller room. The event ran without any disruption whilst still incorporating the large print which was key to the event content. In a less than ideal situation we overcame all issues and helped to communicate all messages successfully.

Great Start to 2013 - Major Launch

Capital Shopping Centres - Jan 2013 - Stephen Ash
We were approached by Capital Shopping Centres in December to discuss a new and exciting project for the development of their company. On the 5th January we were given a full brief of the event and a date of the 14th January when it would take place. On a very tight timescale we developed 3D visual designs for the event, designed technical floor plans for the venue and specified a full event package. The event budget was signed off with 4 days to go before the event install. We produced bespoke stage sets, catwalks and plasma screen event stands matched to specific brand guidelines and pantone reference ready for the event. Large team of technicians, carpenters, fitters and production crew were used throughout the show. The event was a great success as capital shopping centres rebranded as Intu Holdings. Comments from Intu Below:-
Adam Tamset - Event Project Manager - I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and support over the last few weeks. It’s been a pleasure to work with you, and we’re delighted with how the event went. You’ve made everything very easy for us, and nothing has been too much trouble (thankfully!), so we’ll definitely be using you again for our future events.
Amanda Campbell - Communications Director - I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help on making Monday and Tuesday such a success. Apparently I received the highest accolade when both the deputy Chairman and one of our NEDs heaped praise (and surprise) on the quality of the events. I couldn’t have done it without you and your teams. Please pass my thanks onto them all.

Awards season has officially started with the 15th annual British Independent Film Awards held at Old Billingsgate in London.
For the fourth year running, TMAV provided technical project management and video projection along with HD cameras and sound equipment at this star-studded event sponsored by Moet et Chandon. Working with the in house team at the venue, we installed a true HD projection system running from HDCAM which displayed movie clips for the most critical audience – the people that made them. Two Christie Mirage 18k machines handled the main screens and everything was mixed together and fed from the excellent Roland V1600HD vision mixer.
As always, HD footage was provided immediately to several press agencies including Getty and BBC Films to be edited and uploaded overnight.
For an event that seems to be getting bigger and glitzier, we’re looking forward to our fifth outing at next year’s show.

National Apprenticeships Service Filming!

For the first ever Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham last week, the National
Apprenticeships Service once again trusted Crossbow Media to film and edit on
site, producing several daily uploads to their media channels.
This involved capturing footage and interviews during the day and editing overnight;
a tried and tested formula after doing the same for the last two WorldSkills
competitions.
Yet again, Crossbow are proud to be chosen to show our skills in such esteemed
company.

Once again for their
showcase presentation to the Jessops chain, Nikon came to us to create a
projection experience befitting of their imaging technology.
A specialist rear
projection screen surface was stretched to fill an entire end of the conference
suite and we used our Watchout systems to deliver the high resolution content
for the shows. A full day of ten shows and Watchout performed flawlessly
time after time. Nikon really love it's flexibility and quality, and the
fact that they can cue their show like they were giving any other presentation
which helps to reduce any nervousness.
Four Panasonic 12K HD
projectors were blended onto each other, with a critical line up needed for a
truly seamless image to live up to the quality expected by the UK's premier
imaging company.

For the prestigious launch of the exclusive team scarves of Team GB, clothing company Next chose the Saatchi Gallery in London to host which the hottest event space right now.

As preferred suppliers to Saatchi, we were asked to create a way of giving maximum impact to the launch using stunning imagery and video supplied by Next. Hosted by Claudia Winkelman and featuring interviews with sporting legends like Sir Steve Redgrave, the event showcased these official fund-raising garments to 200 press and invited guests.
We used our Watchout system to be able to montage all of the images together across three blended 12K projectors which were flown from a special truss rig in Gallery 3. Many of the images were updated on the day of the show and so Watchout was the ideal tool to cope with the last minute changes. The client was really impressed by how flexible and easy it was to rearrange the imagery on site, to make best use of the space.
Clare Jones from Next said "Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for all your help with our event - everyone was very happy with the end result and the show was a great success."
A winning start to our own Olympic campaign!
Crossbow and TMAV with Watchout for Speedo

Thinking about Watchout for your next event? Read here about how Crossbow Media helped Speedo with a fashion show for their new Olympic suits.

Chimera TV contacted Crossbow Media to help them with displaying Watchout content for a run of events for Speedo. They were launching their new Fastskin 3 swimsuit to the press. This new suit will be worn by the UK swimming team at this years Olympics.
Crossbow had to devise a system which would drive four 12k projectors blended together onto a curved backdrop which would see swimsuit models perform in front of it. The backdrop was a fabric stretched across a truss frame and so the big challenge was that the projection surface was curved in three dimensions.
Fortunately, Watchout can handle geometry correction with ease and so there was no problem adjusting for this onsite so that the images looked perfect.
Chimera also asked TM Audio Visual to set up the projection rig as they are used to working closely with Watchout systems and blended projection. As well as the four 12k projectors for the main wall, they also had to set up a Barco 10k projector overhead which would be used to project a motion tracked image onto a model for the reveal of the new suit.
Once again, Watchout performed faultlessly and with version 5 of the system, we can now drive all four projectors with one display machine representing massive savings for our clients.
You could say the event went swimmingly…
